Tom was the dean of the Isenberg School of Management from 1987-2006 and is a retired Professor of Finance from the University of Massachusetts. He served as Vice President for Finance at Harvard University from 1977-1987. As dean he promoted entrepreneurship and served as a board member of several start-up companies.

Since retirement from UMASS he has continued to promote entrepreneurship in Western Massachusetts and serves on boards of three new businesses and several charitable organizations.
Tom has joined in the work of IDEA4Africa to help grow entrepreneurs who will promote a healthy business climate and economic development, grow the middle class, and be instrumental in solving social and economic problems of their countries and the continent.
